Four Free Canadian Safety Resources

Below are four Canadian based organizations that provide general and specific safety information applicable to all industries, including construction and oil and gas. You can find many helpful, free resources on their websites, such as safety videos, information on health and safety incentives, guidelines for pandemic-related hazards and controls, and H&S templates for policies, procedures, forms, etc. These four websites can help answer any safety questions that may arise, as well as provide educational safety resources.

Canadian Center for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)

The CCOHS website is a hub for all Canadian safety resources. Their website is easy to navigate and offers more than just policies and procedures. The main page features a "Topics to Explore" section that covers topics such as Mental Health, Young and New Workers, Healthy Workplaces, and a few others. One of the suggested topics is "Pandemics," which provides infectious disease information applicable to the workplace - a great resource while we're currently experiencing COVID-19.

Alberta.ca

Alberta's provincial government website provides information on all government services and various topics. However, you can search "OHS'' or any other safety-related topics in the search bar to find safety resources like templates, posters, bulletins, and general information.

WorkSafeBC

WorkSafeBC's website is filled with a wealth of information, posters, and videos. They also have a YouTube channel filled with well-produced videos that can be used to provide awareness to all levels of employees. Their videos are an excellent resource for safety meetings as well.

Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA)

ACSA may be one of Alberta's more well-known websites, as most companies hold their COR through the organization. Under the resources section on their website, you'll find "Health and Safety Management Templates and Resources." This downloadable file provides policies, procedures, forms and additional templates to help build a health and safety program fit to the 2019 audit tool. These up-to-date documents are a good foundation for anyone looking to update their safety program documentation.
