Toolbox Tuesday – Ergonomic Workstations

Over the years, creating ergonomic workspaces has been a priority for many organizations as technology has become more affordable and assessable. Having a well-designed, ergonomic workspace reduces workplace injuries and increases productivity.

Unfortunately, when COVID-19 struck this year, it required many businesses to close their offices, forcing employees to work from home. Many employees had to create a workspace within their home, working from a laptop.

Did you know that a laptops' design makes it impossible to position both the screen and keyboard at the correct height, which can lead to poor postures in the neck, shoulders, and wrists?

Three tips to help create an ergonomic workspace at home

1.       Choose the right chair, and it should have,

-        Lumbar support

-        Armrests

-        And feet should be able to rest flat on the floor

2.       Have the right desk height – CSA recommends desk height 25-30 inches.

3.       Positioning your monitor properly

-        It should be 20 inches in front of you

-        Placed at an angle approximately 10 – 20 degrees

-        The top of the screen should be at or below eye level
